LVMPD Foundation News
Las Vegas, April 12, 2024 – Las Vegas businessman Antonio Accornero was recognized as the newest Board Member of the LVMPD Foundation at the organization’s seventh annual Hidden Heroes Gala on Friday night. As an enduring and dedicated supporter of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, it was only fitting that Mr. Accornero join forces with the department, in order to bolster the capabilities of local law enforcement. By working with the Police Department in a more direct capacity via the LVMPD Foundation, Accornero will lend his extensive business acumen in helping to raise and allocate funds to build upon what is already one of the strongest law enforcement agencies in the country.
Mr. Accornero is grateful for the opportunity to serve on the Board, saying, “I’m looking forward to working with fellow community leaders who share my goal of making Las Vegas a better, safer community.” Karen Marben, Executive Director of the LVMPD Foundation, shared her sentiments: “In joining the LVMPD Foundation Board of Directors, Accornero brings a wealth of experience and a steadfast commitment to advancing the mission of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. His leadership will undoubtedly contribute to the Foundation’s efforts to support law enforcement initiatives and enhance public safety.”
“Celebrating the Heroes Behind the Badge” is the motto for the annual Hidden Heroes Black & White Gala, which recognizes unsung heroes at LVMPD who are committed to the community and work to keep residents and visitors safe every day. This year’s event honored the LVMPD Air Support/Search and Rescue. The Air Support Unit keeps watch over patrol officers during dynamic incidents, providing surveillance and critical information to officers on the ground. Operating seven days a week, the team responds across the valley whenever eyes in the sky are needed. The Search and Rescue Detail is also ready 24/7, and these highly skilled officers support tactical operations that range from mountain peaks to underwater rescues. During the evening’s proceedings, Karen Marben commended, “In the face of adversity and danger, these brave individuals stand ready to respond at a moment’s notice, utilizing the latest technology and training to safeguard our community and protect the lives of those in need.”
Inspiration for the Hidden Heroes Black & White Gala stems from the heroic acts of 1 October and the crucial role played by the investigative unit that reviewed the harrowing bodycam footage for the Criminal Investigative Report on the 1 October Mass Shooting. Since 2018, in partnership with The Gratitude Project, the Foundation has been honoring department sections and units that play integral roles in law enforcement but are not traditionally in the spotlight. The Gala’s “Black & White” theme is a nod to the color scheme of Metro’s squad cars. Proceeds from the Gala support the Foundation’s mission to provide Metro with the strongest platforms for public safety, including training, equipment and technology, and community engagement events.
