Benefitting Community Businesses and Neighborhoods
Las Vegas, April 05, 2023 – Las Vegas entrepreneur Antonio Accornero met with Captain David Sims of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department on Wednesday to discuss starting a new community initiative. Sims heads the Summerlin Area Command (SAC), the city’s 10th and newest patrol substation, covering 77 square miles and serving the rapidly growing Summerlin Master Planned Community.
Captain Sims called on Mr. Accornero to form and head a business coalition among community leaders. The plan is to start in Summerlin and eventually create coalitions across the entire city, allowing police to work hand in hand with local businesses to fight crime. “We don’t want this to be ‘The Metro Show’,” said Captain Sims. “The LVMPD will be here to partner with local businesses to help make their neighborhoods safer, but it is up to business owners to take the initiative and lead the way.”
Mr. Accornero is on board and looking forward to kick-starting the Summerlin Business Coalition next month, with subsequent monthly meetings at his restaurant, Siena Italian Authentic Trattoria and Deli. “The main goal of these coalitions is to improve our entire community, starting where we work and live,” he said. “It is up to local businesses, who have the resources, to take action in making our businesses and neighborhoods more secure.”
Unlike “First Tuesday,” which is a monthly open forum for residents to communicate with police officers who patrol their neighborhoods, citywide business coalitions will take a more proactive – rather than reactive – approach to community policing.
